Flyer for public hearing regarding Hamtramck's medical waste incinerator.
While I did create this flyer, I did not place it. I also created a version with the message translated into four more languages (Arabic, Polish, Bangladeshi and Bosnian) which was delivered to every household in Hamtramck. The public hearing was to allow residents of Hamtramck and other concerned parties to deliver commment to representatives of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) regarding a permit application filed by Michigan Waste Services that would allow reclassification of their existing medical waste incinerator into a co-fired burner. This permit, if granted, would allow unlimited burning of pathological and chemotherapy waste. Pathological waste includes human body parts and fluids. On January 24, 2005 the MDEQ announced that they denied the permit and would begin the process of revoking the incinerator's existing permit.
