Step lively.

Reasonable people wonder why the City of Hamtramck doesn't fine residents and businesses for failing to clear their sidewalks of snow.

Here's a clue.

The photo shows the sidewalk along the Caniff Ave. municipal parking lot, one of several city-owned sidewalks that don't see daylight until April.

To be fair, the birm of snow blocking the sidewalk is the result of plowing the lot. I've observed that the lot remains conspicuously empty for much of the winter. The pedestrian-advocate in me suspects why.

True, the snow needs to be plowed somewhere. My suggestion? Plow it into a row of parking spots in the lot. The loss in potential parking revenue might offset the risk of potential slip and fall lawsuits.

Just an idea.

True enough about the plummeting market for injury claimants. Still, any claim brought against the city, even if it doesn't result in a juicy settlement, minus Larry Korn's 33%, saps resources.

Hot air, or hot buns sittinng quietly in office chairs, we must always be observant of the output of City Hall.

Though, a paczki-shaped hot-air balloon, fueled by our hard-charging public officials, would make a fabulous promotional device.

Oh, the possibilities...
